Mum's
Surprise Birthday Party - 2003
Dad and Elaine decided to
plan a surprise for Mum Routledge - Elaine and Paul would fly home as
part of the celebration of her 75th Birthday in August. All summer
Dad would ask Elaine whether she would be coming home this year - the
answer was "No, work was too busy". At one point Dad even started
to believe this and called back to make sure we really were coming home.
So Mum was not expecting us to be in the
kitchen the morning of August 31st when she and Dad arrived home from
church. The rest of the day was full of surprises as the rest of
Elaine's siblings and families showed up - Rachel kept adding more and
more cabbage to the coleslaw that was for supper. Finally Dad
broke it to her that we were taking her out for supper. On
arriving for supper, Mum found her sister-in-law and brother-in-law and
a childhood school friend who had also just turned 75.
After supper we returned back to the house
and neighbors started to arrive again to Mum's surprise.
